Honolulu Chooses Current, for LED Streetlight Conversion Project

Following in the footsteps of cities like San Diego, Honolulu, Hawaii, is taking its first steps as an intelligent city by converting 53,000 of its streetlights to state-of-the-art LEDs. LED streetlights will minimize light trespassing and dirt depreciation while making maintenance easier. They also provide a world of possibilities for the city: In the near future, Honolulu will conduct a pilot project using CityIQ™ nodes to track car share programs and improve utility billing practices.

Allyn Lee, a Program Administrator in Honolulu, explains why the city chose Current products to light the roadways, the results they expect, and what’s next for Honolulu as it moves toward becoming a smart city.
